I used to work for a German industrial mailing equipment manufacturer that went turtle a couple of years ago. But if you decided to start selling herbal organic tea instead of coffee, then it might not be a bad idea to distance yourself from the original "brand". I agree that if you bought Starbucks and kept on selling the same old tired coffee that tastes like it has been strained through a pair of sweat socks that have been sitting in the bottom of a laundry basket for a week, then changing the name wouldn't make much sense. After all, Ham Radio Deluxe was someone else's "brand". So if you are saying that v6 is so much more than just a "new and improved" version of v5, then maybe it is time for a new "brand" and let Ham Radio Deluxe fade away into obscurity (which it probably won't). It already is 's right here:ĭM780 was just Simon's wrapper around the FLDigi digital modes engine. Personally, I am considering if it may be worth it myself as a long time user of Simon's software, and I might go ahead and try it.īUT, anyone considering using the software should be fully aware of the real costs and the initial purchase is NOT at ALL the real costs and your little numbers up there are not apples for apples, and you have in fact hidden a huge part of the comparison costs. = $300 for the first 5 years alone, use it for 10 years and it will cost you at least $550, and I am sure the cost will go up during that period. Hmm, funny how its ok for you to talk about pricing, but not anyone else on QRZ.įor the real facts, try adding in 5 years of suport costs there if you want to get any updates and want your software to keep working the next time QRZ changes their API, or there is some change needed for LOTW, or a new model rig comes out from Icom, etc. Many of those other programs don't make you keep paying enterprise style 50% per year support maintenance costs (which we would kick the vendor out the door for trying such a high % at my fortune 50 it shop).
